How to fluff and store an artificial tree so it lasts for years

A good artificial tree can last for many Christmases. A little care when you put it up and take it down makes all the difference.

Fluffing your tree

  1. Start at the bottom. Work on one section at a time, from the lowest branches upwards.
  2. Spread every tip. Separate the tips on each branch in different directions, some up, some out and some to the side.
  3. Shape it into a cone. Bend the branches slightly upwards towards the tips for a natural shape.
  4. Step back. Look from across the room and fill any gaps.

Storing your tree

  • Fold the branches back up gently and return the tree to its box.
  • Keep it somewhere cool and dry, like a loft or under the stairs. Avoid damp garages.
  • For pre-lit trees, check the bulbs and wiring before packing away, and keep any spare bulbs with the tree.

Look after it, and your tree will be the centre of your home for years to come.
